HeadTune doesn't hear my hits

Check it can use the microphone: on an iPhone, go to Settings > HeadTune and turn on Microphone; on Android, go to Settings > Apps > HeadTune > Permissions > Microphone and choose Allow only while using the app. Then hold the phone a foot or two from the drum. If soft hits don't count, raise the sensitivity under the gear on HeadTune's start screen; if sounds that aren't hits count, lower it.

Getting steady readings

  • Tune somewhere quiet, with nothing else ringing.
  • Hit the same spot, about as hard, each time, and let the drum ring.
  • For Whole Drum, keep both heads free, with nothing touching them, and get each head's lugs roughly even first. Lug Mode helps.

What's free, and what's HeadTune Pro?

One Head and Lug Mode are free. HeadTune Pro adds Whole Drum and My Drum Sets, by subscription, $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year, or $29.99 once for good.

Restoring HeadTune Pro on a new phone

On an iPhone, sign in with the same Apple Account, then tap the gear on HeadTune's start screen and choose Restore Purchases. It's on the HeadTune Pro screen too.

On Android, sign in to Google Play with the same Google Account, and HeadTune finds Pro by itself.

Canceling a subscription

Tap the gear on HeadTune's start screen and choose Manage Subscription. Or, on an iPhone, go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions > HeadTune; on Android, open the Play Store and tap your profile picture > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > HeadTune Pro. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews, and Pro lasts to the end of the time you've paid for.

Refunds

Purchases go through Apple or Google Play, which handle refunds: on an iPhone, reportaproblem.apple.com; on Android, Google Play's refund requests.
